Super Paper Mario is a RPG-styled platformer developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo for the Wii. The gameplay is similar to the classic Super Mario games, but with the aesthetic qualities of the Paper Mario series, RPG-like elements like character dialogue and puzzles, and a blend of 2D and 3D platforming. The player starts out with only Mario, but unlocks Princess Peach, Luigi, and even Bowser through the game, and can change between them at any time.

The game was originally planned for the Nintendo GameCube in 2006, but Nintendo changed it to a Wii release due to declining GameCube sales.

Emulation Information
When Using Older Graphics Cards
This game uses a feature known as 'Bounding Box', which Dolphin typically uses Shader Storage Buffer Objects (SSBO) to emulate. This requires a NVIDIA GeForce 400 series or newer, a AMD/ATI Radeon HD 5000 series or newer, or a Intel Broadwell Integrated GPU (Intel HD 5300+) or newer and an operating system that supports OpenGL 4.3, D3D11, GLES 3.1, or Vulkan. On macOS, MoltenVK can be used to attain Vulkan support on the latest builds. If Bounding Box is not emulated correctly, the game will show severe graphical glitches and won't be playable to finish.
Because Dolphin has gone through many variants of Bounding Box support throughout its history, it may be possible for older graphics cards to use less accurate versions of Bounding Box present in older builds. On Android, 5.0-9322 or newer is required for Bounding Box to function at all when using OpenGL ES due to an unrelated bug. Please note that other driver issues can often cause issues with Bounding Box emulation, which can produce similar bugs to having no Bounding Box support whatsoever. In this case, updating drivers or using a different video backend may be your only recourse.
Freeze When Starting a New Game
Disc images that have been converted to the NKit format will freeze when attempting to start a new game. This is a problem with NKit, not Dolphin. Converting the disc image back to a non-NKit disc image will fix the problem. See issue 11900.
Problems
Bounding Box Slowdown on NVIDIA Cards
Paper Mario Vc Dolphin Iso Online
NVIDIA cards are abnormally slow during Bounding Box effects even at very low internal resolutions when using D3D11. They get dramatically slower as the internal resolution increase, even though comparable AMD graphics cards suffer no slowdown at all. This is due to Dolphin hitting a slow path on those graphics cards. It is recommended that supported NVIDIA users use other video backends when playing games that require Bounding Box emulation to avoid that. Resolved as of 5.0-14311.
Dolphin Freezes during Void takeover in Chapter 6-2
Dolphin may freeze completely when the Void takes over during Chapter 6-2, after the laughing Sammer Guy runs away. This issue has been present since at least 4.0.A workaround is to disable the Panic Handlers in Dolphin's main Configuration menu, under the Interface tab, while playing Chapter 6-2. This has been fixed in 5.0-11866.
Enhancements

5.0-266 | Windows 10 | Intel Core i7-5820K | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 | DX12 runs at 60 FPS in 4k but suffers some minor drops when flipping.Suffers major drops in the elevators at the beginning, | Brimaster2000 |
5.0-266 | Windows 8.1 | Intel Core i3-4030U | Intel HD Graphics 4400 | Runs perfectly but animations won't bound with BG images if aspect ratio is 'stretch to window'. Sometimes, Pixls don't appear after going through doors, which when tried to switch to 3D, results in computer freeze. | SahilGagrai |
5.0-3012 | Windows 7 | Intel Celeron G1610 @2.6 GHz | Intel HD Graphics | Runs excellent, NEEDS bounding emulation and EFB to RAM. Runs 60 FPS using D3D11 (Reaching up to 80 disabling frame limits), but OGL runs way slower, 45-55 FPS. Native Resolution. | EblfIYH |

Vulkan and D3D11 both give a constant 60FPS, except that Mario's switching between 2D and 3D could cause a slowdown to 40~. Perfectly playable in all. OpenGL is not tested. | amiboss |
5.0-11827 | Windows 10 | Intel Core i7 6700K @ 4.0GHz | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 | Configuration: 1440p with Widescreen enabled, high res texture pack, and other enhancement settings. Game version USA Rev 0 (v 1.00). Vulkan works very well, consistent 60 FPS. Encountered an issue in Chapter 6-2 after the Mimi fight, when the Void takes over and the screen flashes white after the laughing Sammer guy runs away, Dolphin freezes. I was able to get around this by disabling Panic Handlers in the main Dolphin config. | hman360 |

ONLY CONFIRMED TO WORK WITH N64 GAMES RIGHT NOW!!! (I only have 2 N64 games and 1 SNES game, and I don't know what to do on the last step for SNES games; if someone knows what to do with the final file please comment!)
This will take you step-by-step to help you extract the ROM from a Virtual Console game in your NAND backup (if you need to dump that still go here). I haven't tested this that much yet, so comment if a game works / doesn't work.
1. Download the ZIP archive here and extract all of the files to whatever folder you like.
[/size]
2. Launch ShowMiiWads.exe and accept the disclaimer (you really won't be doing any of that stuff anyway).
3. Click on Tools > Create Common-Key and type in what it tells you to.
4. Click on Options > Change NAND Backup Path and, well, choose your backup path (if you are using your NAND backup with Dolphin it is under UserWii).
5. Click on View > ShowMiiNand to see a list of all installed IOSes and Channels in your NAND backup.
6. Right-click the game you want to use (for me it is Paper Mario for the N64) and select Pack Wad. Choose a folder and select OK. I just used the folder I extracted all of the files to from step 1 (the default option).
7. Now click View > ShowMiiWads. Select File > Open Folder and choose the folder that you put the wad in from the previous step.
8. Right-click the game and select Extract > To Folder and choose a folder. I, once again, just put it in the folder from step 1 (the default option). The first couple of times I did this it worked fine, but the last couple of times it kept 'Not Responding' and wouldn't quit. I found that the wad was still extracted though, so if it is try to continue but understand you may have to come back to this step to try again.
9. Click on Tools > Unpack U8 Archive. This is where it gets tricky. Under the folder from the previous step there should be a folder named after your game. For N64 games and SNES games, you want to select '00000005.app', but it depends on what system the game is for. Generally, choose the largest .app file.
10. The previous step should have made a folder called 00000005_app_OUT or something similar if you extracted a different .app file. Open that folder.
11. The largest file in this folder is the one you want. The name of the file and its extension changes depending on the game. Sometimes it is a .rom file with a random file name, sometimes a .n64 with a random file name, sometimes just 'rom' with no extension, and who knows what else it could be.
If it is a .rom file, I haven't yet figured out how to play those in an emulator. I got one of these when extracting Super Mario RPG, but I couldn't get ZSNES to accept the thing because of its stupid checksum tests.
You might be done at this step, but some newer games have a 'romc' file with no extension. This is the ROM, but it is compressed, so if this is what you have continue to the next step.
12. IF YOUR FILE IS CALLED 'romc' you still have one last step. Some newer games have a 'romc' file with no extension. This is the ROM, but it is compressed, so if this is what you have you need to run a command line tool to decompress it. Click on the Windows icon and type 'cmd' and select the only available option. In the command line type:
cd C:/path_to_the_folder_you_extracted_to_in_step_1/
romc d C:/path_to_the_file/romc C:/path_to_where_you_want_the_rom/name_of_game.n64
Replace italics with what it says and the extension at the end of the second line with whatever the extension is for your emulator.
That's it! You should now have a working ROM (maybe).
Games confirmed to work:
Paper Mario (N64) - works in Dolphin as well
Games confirmed not to work:
Majora's Mask (N64) - works in Dolphin as well (though sporadically)
Super Smash Bros. (N64) - works in Dolphin as well
Games I don't know what to do with once I get the .rom file:
Super Mario RPG (SNES), and any other SNES games for that matter. - works in Dolphin, but you can't save
Please reply if this worked/didn't work for your game so I can add it to the list!
TODO:
- clean up if someone points out something wrong
- NEED MORE GAMES LISTED
Edit History:
- 9/8/2012: Added 'Super Smash Bros. (N64) to the list of games that don't work
- 7/30/2012: Made the formatting nicer, will add pictures hopefully by the end of the day.
- 7/30/2012: Added pictures (they are very large unfortunately because I couldn't add them all to Dolphin's attachment list)
